Mary and George's marriage takes an unexpected turn in the new Young Sheldon season 7, episode 3 trailer. The Coopers remain separated in The Big Bang Theory's final season, with the new year picking up from events of the Young Sheldon season 6 finale. Sheldon and Mary almost went home following the tornado in Medford but were discouraged by everyone, especially considering their living situation. In Young Sheldon season 7, episode 2, George appears to be having a great time away from Mary, but that isn't the only benefit of them being physically away from each other.

It's worth mentioning that with 2 episodes in, Young Sheldon only has 12 outings left, which includes a special back-to-back episode for its finale in May. This means that if the cheating scandal is to happen, there won't be much set-up for it. Instead, it will likely be executed almost like a plot twist despite The Big Bang Theory laying the narrative ground for it. Assuming that happens, it's also safe to say that George's death will go down not long after that.
