Glen Powell reveals that he and Sydney Sweeney are looking for their Anyone But You follow-up. Based on Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, the romantic comedy observes the relationship between Ben (Powell) and Bea (Sweeney), who choose to appease their families by pretending to get along during a destination wedding. Released in December, Anyone But You became a surprise box office success, and many have praised the chemistry between its stars, leading to speculation about another potential team-up.

Speaking with Variety, Powell shared that he and Sweeney are trying to work on another movie together. He noted that they're looking for scripts and "we're reading everything" when it comes to romcoms. Read Powell's quote below:

" When you find somebody that you really jive with, Sydney is so easy to work with and so fun. We’re definitely trying to find the next thing. Please send us all the scripts you got. You know we’re here for it. It’s been really wonderful to read a lot. Sydney reads everything, by the way, and in record time. She’s the fastest reader I think I’ve ever met. It takes me a little longer, but we’re reading everything and just trying to see what makes sense, what we can turn into something that audiences are going to respond to. "

An Anyone But You Follow Up is a Good Idea

Anyone But You maintained an impressive theatrical run, suggesting that R-rated romantic comedies are still profitable, and that a follow-up would produce similar results. Currently, the film has generated $200 million at the worldwide box office, surpassing some expectations and becoming the first romcom since 2018's Crazy Rich Asians to do so. Because of its commercial success, Anyone But You released a special edition for Valentine's Day, which featured additional footage. Along with its humor and Australian setting, much of its record-breaking performance could also be attributed to Powell and Sweeney.

Sweeney previously mentioned that she and Powell discussed pairing up again, and given her co-star's latest comments, a follow-up to Anyone But You seems more and more likely, assuming the right project comes their way. It would be hard to capitalize on the movie's success through a direct sequel, because Ben and Bea actually begin to explore their relationship near the end of Anyone But You. However, the duo could star in another Shakespeare or novel adaptation, or surprise audiences with an original story that finds their characters in a unique situation.

Fans of Anyone But You, who have been eager to watch its two stars in another film together, should be excited to hear that Powell and Sweeney are looking for a follow-up of sorts. It will be interesting to see whether their on-screen reunion comes to fruition, and what kind of success that could potentially generate. Based on the box office numbers of the 2023 romcom, it seems this partnership will only continue to grow.

Anyone But You was made available for digital purchase on February 20.
