Park Gyu-young’s Sweet Home character, Ji-su, deserved a better fate in season 2, but fans of the actress will get to see her in another major Netflix K-drama that also returns in 2024. Whereas Sweet Home 2 took three years to happen, Sweet Home season 3 will premiere less than a year after the show’s latest batch of episodes. With the series heading toward its conclusion, Sweet Home now has to focus on the characters that will play a significant role in the grand finale, which makes Ji-su’s fate on the show even more disappointing.

Sweet Home season 2’s cast saw the inclusion of several new characters, all of whom expanded the scope of the show but also limited how much screen time the show’s original protagonists could have. The Green Home residents were no longer in the spotlight, and even Song Kang’s Hyun-su had a more limited presence in the series compared to his role in season 1. Still, of all the original Sweet Home characters, the one that was done wrong the most by season 2 was Ji-su, who only appeared in three episodes of the new season.

Song Kang’s Hyun-su and Park Gyu-young’s Ji-su did not share any scenes in Sweet Home season 2.

Ji-su, played by Park Gyu-young in Sweet Home, died at the end of season 2, episode 3. Ji-su, Eun-yu, and the other remaining Green Home residents were trying to reach a safety zone following the destruction of their building, only to encounter other monsters on the way. To make things worse, what was left of the military decided to bombard the city so that the monster curse would not spread to other regions. One of the bombs made the bridge’s structure collapse, trapping Ji-su in the wreckage and sealing the character’s fate.

While Ji-su died protecting a child, the way Sweet Home 2 handled Park’s character was disappointing. Not only was Ji-su a fan-favorite in season 1, but her webtoon counterpart was one of the most important characters in the source material. The Sweet Home webtoon even hits at Hyun-su and Ji-su having feelings for each other, something that the Netflix K-drama adaptation did not lean into. In fact, Song Kang’s Hyun-su and Park Gyu-young’s Ji-su did not share any scenes in Sweet Home season 2, with the former only learning about the latter’s death several episodes later.

Sweet Home season 3 will premiere in 2024 but will likely not feature Ji-su unless the character appears in a flashback or a dream sequence. That said, fans of Park Gyun-young will get to see her shining in another highly anticipated Netflix 2024 K-drama &- Squid Game. In addition to returning names such as Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun, Squid Game2's cast will feature a brand-new set of characters, most of which will likely be the participants of the name game. Park is expected to play one of Squid Game’s new players, though not much is known about her character.

More recently, Park starred in her own Netflix web series, Celebrity. The show, one of the most well-received K-dramas of 2023, explored the lives of social media influencers in a story about ego, envy, and the dangers of continuous exposure. Park played Seo Ah-ri, who suddenly becomes a popular influencer who gets to reveal the secrets and downsides of this lifestyle from within. Sweet Home’s Park Gyu-young is also set to star in In The Net, an upcoming Korean series based on the novel Second Sister, which does not have a release date yet.
