Civilization is one of the longest-running series in video games, the first installment in Sid Meier's iconic strategy series released back in 1991. Five more Civilization games, and countless expansions, have followed in its footsteps, and right now you can pick up the latest in the series, Civilization 6, for considerably less. 90 percent less as the 4X game has had its price slashed to just $5.99 for a limited time.
Civilization 6 was free to play on Steam this weekend. You might be able to play it for free for a few more hours depending on when you're reading this. Its free weekend doesn't end until noon EST. If you have missed out on playing it for free, even if you're a Civilization newbie, the deal you can get on the game right now through Steam makes it worth a try. $6 instead of the usual $60, and the worst case scenario is you play it for a few hours and come to the conclusion the series might not be for you.
Although you're only getting the core game for that $6, there's a heck of a lot of core game to get. Not only what Civilization launched with in 2016, which was already pretty substantial, but the eight years of updates that have come since, making this one of the best deals in gaming right now. You've got until March 7 to decide whether you're going to toss Firaxis six bucks in exchange for the latest Civilization game, but there's more than one reason why you probably shouldn't wait that long to take advantage of this deal.

A number of Civilization 6 add-ons are also heavily reduced on Steam, again for a limited time, so best to try the base game now and determine if you'd enjoy its additional content while it's on sale. The Gathering Storm and Rise & Fall expansions are both available for less, and that means the Anthology Bundle and Platinum Edition are also on sale. The Platinum Edition is actually where you'll find the best savings, a 91 percent price cut bringing the bumper package down from almost $170 to just $15.09.
If you don't have a PC capable of running Civilization 6, all hope is not lost. If you have PS Plus Extra, you can technically get the game for even less. The latest Civilization game is currently available to download and play through the middle tier of the subscription service. Joining it this month is Assassin's Creed Valhalla, NFS Unbound, and Lego Worlds among other titles.
